Unified Communications and the Promise of Cloud

About nine months ago, IHS Markit and Sangoma presented a webinar titled UCaaS and the Small Business: Adoption and Implementation. I was recently checking something out and went over the materials again. It’s still useful information on the topic, so I’d still invite you to listen to a replay of the webinar.

If you register for the webinar replay, you’ll be able to download a report that IHS Markit published as support to the webinar. It’s an interesting report that outlines some findings from a UC survey they conducted.

When you get down to it, the world of cloud communications measured by number of seats is still in its infancy, with over 90% of UC seats still being on premise. In other words, there are still A LOT of installed on-prem seats. And they’re not going anywhere soon. (And as I’ve written about in other of my blog posts, there are still good reasons business choose to continue using on-prem systems.)

However, there are also plenty of valid reasons to move to the cloud.

For one, businesses are choosing to put their resources into running their business, not running their IT department. As they’ve “cloudified” other parts of their business—their website or their CRM, for instance— they feel more comfortable moving their core communications into the cloud. This leaves the business able to focus more resources on “the business” as opposed to the back-end resources. And for a small business, this is a big deal.

Secondly, as businesses get more comfortable with the cloud model, they also see the benefit of having access to the latest features on the cloud application every time the application is upgraded. So the business doesn’t have to worry or spend more money to stay modern and up-to-date with the latest communication technology as it’s more easily available with a cloud model.

Sangoma offers both CPE/On-Premise and Cloud based PBX / UC systems. And because both of our offerings use the same code base, both deployment types receive the same advanced features guaranteed.
